The Next Stop Foundation is a nonprofit organization in Suwanee, Georgia, that provides social, recreational, and learning opportunities to high functioning adults with special needs.
Vicki LaRoche – Program Director
Co-founding The Next Stop with her husband, Stu, in 2006, Vicki’s role is multifaceted. Every aspect of the program is under her direction. She plans each day’s goal-oriented activities, executes the plan, and is directly involved with members. Behind the scenes, she also serves in an administrative role serving as the president of the Board of Directors, grant writing, fundraising, and communications. Vicki volunteered as The Next Stop’s leader for five years when in 2012 she became a paid employee.
Kathy Cookson – Occupational Therapist
Kathy comes to us with 23 years of experience as an OT working in a variety of settings. She joined The Next Stop in the spring of 2015 to help support our members by identifying solutions to personal and environmental barriers that may limit their ability to fully engage in activities at their highest possible level. In her role as an OT, Kathy will also help promote therapeutic use of everyday activities within The Next Stop programs to help our members maintain their current levels of independence in daily activities.
Karin Bowman – Kitchen Education Coordinator
Karin’s natural cooking skills provide The Next Stop a leader to manage all aspects of our kitchen education. She plans and develops picture-supported recipes, does all grocery shopping, and leads the cooking segment of each day. Her preschool teaching experience and having an adult daughter with special needs has prepared her to plan appropriate cooking activities to The Next Stop’s special needs population. Karin began volunteering with The Next Stop from before it opened in September 2007 and became an employee two years later.
Katrina Furqueron – Administrative Coordinator
Katrina manages many areas of The Next Stop program serving as the volunteer coordinator, onsite bookkeeper, records keeper, and all-around administrative assistant. She began volunteering from the day The Next Stop opened in September 2007 and for three more years when she became a paid employee. Katrina’s people skills serve her well as she is consistently communicating with members, volunteers, and member families on behalf of The Next Stop. Her valuable organizational abilities have supported the growth and development of the infrastructure of The Next Stop.
